Ask David | Podcasts | Part 2

Since you guys seemed to really like my first Podcast Roundup, I thought it was time for an update. I've spent a lot of time traveling this summer, so having a list of podcast recommendations on hand is perfect for road trips and airport waiting areas, not to mention my regular commute.

I'd love to know what you think of this list and I'd also love to know what you're listening to as well!

Self-Care

Oprah's Super Soul Conversations

Oprah’s Super Soul Conversations

What can I say other than Oprah is the best. She really is. The breadth and depth of topics are astounding. I’m constantly surprised, and I really shouldn’t be at this point, about how engaged I can be by people/topics in which I had no interest because of Oprah’s other-worldly interviewing skills. If you don’t have at least one “ah-ha” moment per episode, then I don’t know what to tell you.  I’m particular to the Brené Brown episodes.

The Goopfellas Podcast

The Goopfellas Podcast

This is a rather new entry into the goop universe that I’m thoroughly enjoying so far. It’s goop for men if you will. Because, why can’t guys be in on the GP action too? I’m here for it.

The Liturgists Podcast

The Liturgists Podcast

As someone who has had a long and complicated relationship with organized religion, this podcast hits on a lot of the topics that I have explored on my spiritual journey. I find the diverse points of view refreshing and the deep dives on divisive issues healing. What I love best is the opportunity to open up so many topics that are taboo or a given (in certain religious circles) to discussion. No matter your faith (or lack thereof) or place in your spiritual life, there are bound to be episodes that either help you understand yourself or those you love in a better way.

 Mastemind Parenting with Randi Rubenstein

Mastermind Parenting Podcast

Randi’s post-new-age of parenting advice is exactly what I need right now. Raising kids is no joke, and I can use all the help I can get. Michelle and I have both benefited from her approach to understanding our kids better. It’s a reminder that there are no quick answers, and that we may have to unlearn some behavior that’s been baked into us from childhood.  Bonus, she’s Houston based, and you can actually meet with her in person if you are really into what she has to teach.

Fashion/Business

 Second Life with Hillary Kerr

Second Life

Hillary Kerr, the co-founder of Who What Wear, is the voice of the brilliant podcast about women who have reinvented themselves in their careers. She has an endless supply of some of the strongest female leaders in business. Her skills as a journalist are evident from her insightful questions to the way she gets her guests to open up about topics that they might not have otherwise shared.

How I Built This with Guy Raz

How I Built This

Whether or not you have your own business, this podcast is full of inspiring stories about how your favorite brands were built. The life lessons from these entrepreneurs and business leaders are endlessly inspiring to me. Guy Raz gets the best out of each of his subjects and you really get to see behind the success (and let’s be honest, failures) of some of the biggest household names in business.

Goal Digger Podcast

Goal Digger

Jenna Kutcher started her entrepreneurial career as a wedding photographer but has quickly branded herself as a marketing maven for small businesses. She’s built a cult following around her digital courses. I like her relatable and no-nonsense approach to running a business. Her focus on customer service and being constant is a lesson I need to hear.

Lauren Conrad: Asking for a Friend Podcast

Lauren Conrad: Asking for a Friend

If you didn’t grow up with The Hills or Laguna Beach for that matter, you may not know about the girl who didn’t go to Paris (look it up). Michelle got me hooked on The Hills when we lived in Paris. I liked the somewhat “heightened reality” look on the fashion business, but I could always see something in Lauren Conrad that went beyond reality TV star. Fast forward a decade and Lauren has proven herself as a business person, tastemaker, and brand builder. If you don’t know about her non-profit retail business The Little Market, check it out. Lauren pulls her guest list from her friends and people who have helped her create her signature aesthetic. She offers an insight into how they built their own businesses and offers practical advice to those who are currently growing their own businesses.

Business Unusual with Barbara Corcoran

Business Unusual

Barbara Corcoran has made a name for herself post real estate career on Shark Tank. She takes her no-nonsense approach on this podcast, chock-full of advice and practical advice for business owners at every stage in the game. Most of the episodes are short, so it’s an easy one to keep up with if you have a short commute.

Miscellaneous

Spectacular Failures Podcast

Spectacular Failures

Why do some ideas go spectacularly wrong? That’s the premise of this new podcast hosted by Lauren Ober. So far, I’ve been pleasantly entertained by the range of stories and the production values are top-notch. Highly entertaining and educational. The episode on Jim and Tammy Faye Bakker’s theme park is particularly riveting.

Dirty John Podcast Dirty John

I haven’t started this one yet, but it’s on my list of ones to listen to next. It began as an LA times project and was subsequently made into a Bravo TV series with Connie Britton and it’s based on a true story. Really creepy in the best way.

Got it from My Mama Podcast, Lulu (Lauren Piskin) and Tori Piskin

Got it from My Mama

WARNING: Don’t listen if you are easily offended, but I haven’t laughed so hard in I can’t tell you how long. I’ve known Lauren (Lulu) and Tori since we lived in New York (Michelle worked for Lauren as a Pilates instructor and I made Tori’s prom dress). They have one of the most heartwarming and honest mother/daughter relationships and are afraid of nothing. NO topic is off-limits (like I said, I warned you).

Emily Post Institute, Awesome Etiquette Podcast Awesome Etiquette

On the opposite side of my previous recommendation is Awesome Etiquette. Hosted by cousins Lizzy and Dan (descendants of manners maven Emily Post herself and Lizzy is the author of Higher Etiquette: A Guide to the World of Cannabis from Dispensaries to Dinner Parties), this podcast takes a look at modern etiquette quandaries. In case you are put off by the idea of etiquette, Lizzy and Dan make it simple. It’s about being KIND. “Rules” are just ways that we can show kindness and respect to those we love. The world needs more of that right now.
