Red Carpet Rundown | 2020 Emmy Awards

I always look forward to red carpet season, but it's become even more fun in recent years since we've focused so much on our custom clothing side of the business. Seeing stars on the red carpet can help inspire our clients to try something a little outside of the box or see a "trend" on a woman who is not just a model on a runway.

This year, our friend COVID-19 threatened to wreck havoc on awards season, but creative people being the creative people that they are, found ways to make this year's Emmy Awards both fun and Fashionable. The results were unexpected and showcased how fun fashion can and should be. I haven't been to a public event or restaurant since February, so seeing a sense of normalcy was good for my spirit.

If you follow my red carped recaps, you'll know that I don't believe in best and worst dressed. What I do believe in is dissecting what the stars wore, why I liked it, and how I think it could apply to our clients. This Emmy awards gave me loads of ideas and I hope it does the same for you!

In no particular order:

H.E.R. in Custom Vera Wang

We've done quite a few formal outfits with a nod to a client's cultural heritage and the results are always fashionable AND meaningful. H.E.R. payed hommage to her Filipina heritage in this bright and poppy Very Wang Ao dai.

Robin Thede in Christian Siriano

LOVE the unexpected color and volume of this gown. The silhouette is exuberant, but the lines are simple and rendered in a bold solid. Not everyone can get away with this color, but if you can, you should!

Regina King in Schiaparelli Couture by Daniel Roseberry

This is just spectacular. I've loved seeing Schiaparelli come back to life and Regina King makes this dress sing. I'm not sure if it would have worked as well on a traditional red carpet, but this image is stunning.

Zendaya in Christopher John Rodgers

I mean. She never gets it wrong. Love the bold shape and color. It feels like a throwback to to Poiret's hobble skirts and I love it.

Zendaya in Custom Armani Privé

She just doubled down on the glam when she could have taken it easy. Mad respect. Zendaya in one person I'm always thrilled to see. She just gets it.

Annie Murphy in Valentino

Canadians are just cool. Maybe it's the longer winters or the beautiful scenery. I'm not exactly sure, but I want to be them when I grow up. Or have a home in Schitt's Creek... either way, this is good and it's comfortably chic.

Catherine O'Hara in Valentino

Channeling Moira Rose is the best way, Catherine O'Hara has great instincts and style. The shoes totally make the look.

Dan Levy Thom Browne

Echoes of his suit in the Happiest Ending in TV history, Dan Levy makes me want to try wearing kilts. I'm not going to try in case you were wondering, but he makes them look so cool. Darn Canadians.

I didn't even mention that they swept the comedy categories at the Emmy Awards. Couldn't happen to a better show. The best thing on TV in maybe forever.

Holland Taylor in Prada and Irene Neuworth Jewels

Devastatingly chic and fun. Embrace color and statement jewelry.

Issa Rae in Sergio Hudson

She may be one of the funniest women on TV, but I'm serious about her fashion skills. And to think I used to hate orange as a teenager. Consider me reformed.

Laverne Cox in Azzi & Osta

This may be an all time personal best for her. Stunning. Also, I'm here for how many people used the lack of an actual red carpet to do more editorial photos.

Kerry Washington in Oscar de la Renta

Fresh as a daisy in full bloom. Love the bob.

Yara Shahidi in Custom Prada

Another woman who never fails to knock it out of the park.  This a perfect example of keeping Is simple, but making sure that the textile is breathtaking. Works every time.

Traci Ellis Ross in Alexandre Vaulthier

Ms. Traci found herself a red carpet! Or made herself one. #BetheHeroYouWanttoSee This woman is style inspo for days... maybe even weeks and years.

Cynthia Erivo in Versace

Every since I saw her on Broadway in The Color Purple, I have been obsessed. She's got one of the most powerful voices on the planet and she can wear a dress like nobody's business.

Rachel Brosnahan and Jason Ralph in Custom PJs by Christy Rilling

If I looked this good in pajamas, I'd wear them to the Emmy Awards too. The best part of these looks is that they are going to be auctioned off for "When We All Vote," and organization we LOVE!

Also, could we start a petition for them to do a remake of "The Pajama Game?"

What were your favorites from the night? I'm sure I missed some memorable looks. Can't wait for the next awards show!

David Peck Signature.
