Today's post is a little different than normal. Alyssa (our Director of Customer Happiness) and I were talking the other day about her travel schedule and she was saying that she had a huge revelation when she was packing to visit her parents in Virginia. She was only going to be gone a few days, but they were going to be visiting various places and she didn't want to pack a huge bag just for the weekend. That's when she had her "aha moment" and realized that what she needed was staring her in the face... literally every day.
I'll let her tell you...
Pack smarter, not harder.
Travel day is tomorrow, it’s 9pm on a Thursday and I just got around to packing. You know, because I couldn’t find the time earlier in the week or because I just procrastinate, but that doesn’t matter now because I have bigger fish to fry. Practically my entire closet is strewn across my bed and floor. I have 25 outfits packed (I’m only going away for a weekend). I have created about half a dozen scenarios in my head based on my itinerary, where a photo may be taken and I need to be cute, but comfortable, yet practical.
I find myself bouncing back and forth between heels, sandals, and sneakers. Mind you, all of which has to be packed into a 14in x 22in carry-on size bag. Let’s face it, I could just throw it all into a bigger suitcase but who wants to pay $50 for a checked bag and I also don’t want to look like an over-packer (even though I am). So, here’s my dilemma, do I consolidate and eliminate outfits only to regret on my trip that I was overdressed or underdressed for planned events, or do I come up with a better more efficient way to pack?
As I sat starring at my overflowing carry on suitcase, it dawned on me that if I just packed simple easy outfits that could be dressed up or down just by the change of a shoe or accessory than I wouldn’t have the giant mess I see before me. That brings me to *DING* (Lightbulb in my head goes off) my David Peck shirt dresses.
Oslo Dress | Blue and Gray Stripe
COMME DES GARÇONS PLAY x Converse Chuck Taylor® Hidden Heart Low Top Sneaker
3-4 different shirt dresses would get me through the weekend. I could wear sneakers during the day, sandals by the lake or beach and change into heels for a night on the town or a nice dinner.
Oslo Dress | Cotton Blue & White Mini Windowpane
Bare Espadrille Sandal by The Row
All I needed to pack was a sweater to throw on if I got cold, a large brim hat for the winery/lake, and a few fun fashionable accessories such as my Christina Greene and Baublebar jewelry.
Perrine Dress | Cotton Blue & White Mini Windowpane
Was it really that easy?! IT WAS!! Not only did they take up a fraction of the space in my suitcase that my other outfits did, but they looked more put together since they didn’t require much styling. I knew no matter what I did or where I went, I was going to feel and look like a million bucks!
VALENTINO GARAVANI Rockstud Espadrille Wedge
I repacked my bag, with room to spare I might add and jet-setted off to Virginia’s valley to enjoy the incredible weather in style….I will deal with the pile of clothes on my floor later (famous last words).
Bon Voyage!!
Alyssa
