Staff Picks | What is Your Zodiac Sign?

I admit it. I'm into the "woo."

We're all made of energy. That's a scientific fact and not something I got from Woodstock. Our very planet's existence is completely dependent on gravitational pulls from our moon and how we sit in relationship to the sun. There are some theories that even suggest that our planetary rotation causes a magnetic field that helps to shield us from the sun's rays.

With all that energy going on, it makes sense to me that it would affect us as humans too. The moon determines the tides, and we are 75% water, so...That's why I've become so interested in astrology and how it relates to how we act as humans.

As Earth orbits the sun, the sun appears to pass in front of different constellations. Much like the moon appears in a slightly different place in the sky each night, the location of the sun relative to distant background stars drifts in an easterly direction from day to day. It’s not that the sun is actually moving. Its motion is entirely an illusion, caused by Earth’s own motion around our star.

If you imagine Earth at the center of the circle, and yourself standing on Earth, looking up at the night sky, you would be surrounded by a 360° panorama of the constellations in the sky. The constellations are divided up into twelve sectors, or Houses. As you can see, the Houses are numbered in the illustration above. The constellations represent the ruling signs of those twelve Houses.

Imagine yourself again looking up at the constellations in the night sky. In identifying the constellations, one normally looks for a planet in or near the constellation of stars. In the outer wheel of the chart above, you will see the planets. These are the ruling planets of the sign and House. For example, the 1st House is ruled by Aries, and Aries is ruled by Mars.

These constellations and planets all have their own energy and personalities. Much of ancient Greek mythology talks about these traits. Over time, certain patterns appeared as people studied the stars and their movements. Remember the wise men found Jesus by studying the heavens!
