David's World

I love a bargin. I hate feeling like I’ve over paid for something. It’s the worst. So it might surprise you that I kinda hate Black Friday. You will never find me waiting in line for a deal the day after Thanksgiving. Crowds are not my thing, and there’s something really icky to me about shopping when things aren’t neat and tidy. I feel gross and in turn, I feel like what I’ve bought is tainted by that feeling as well. It’s just not as special. Here are 5 reasons why I’ve decided Black Friday and other sale events like it aren’t for me, and why we don’t participate here at Miles David.

One of the best things about working closely with our clients is that we get to work on super fun projects with them outside of the norm. One of the recent was with Ashley of Ashley Nicole Style. Ashley has been a great friend and client for several years (we have some other super exciting projects in the works, so stay tuned!), and she is incredibly involved in the Arthritis Foundation.

We've helped support the Arthritis Foundation in the past, but this year was super special because Ashely chaired the event! When she asked us to help her with her costume, I was THRILLED! I'm working on a separate post about the costume and the headpiece for you, but I wanted to give you Ashley's take on the evening.

It's official. The CStyle is a smashing success! Thank you to everyone who preordered. We can't wait to see how you wear it!

On that note, Carly of CStyleBlog.com wrote a great post about just that. So, without further ado... here ya go!

ALL THE DIFFERENT WAYS TO WEAR IT

You know when you know when you have a good idea? Well, I don't always know, but I usually recognize when other people have a good idea. That's why when Carly Lee of C. Style mentioned a collaboration featuring a version of her go-to black-tie gown, I was IN!

Carly did a great job on her BLOG of explaining the dress and why you NEED it in your closet, so I'm going to let her tell the story.

Enjoy!

DREAMS REALLY DO COME TRUE!

What if I told you I found a stunning black tie dress that is extremely slimming (on all body types), comfortable (you can wear a normal bra), unique (no one else will look like you), can be worn all year round (because it has sleeves), and that will make a statement but won’t look like you are going to the prom or are part of the wedding party…

I’ve been wanting to do a TV post for a long time and I’m finally getting around to doing it. I probably watch WAY too much TV, but every time I think it’s too much, I remind myself that I also used to read about 10-15 books a week when I was younger. TV is totally my new book. Plus, I tend to fall asleep now when I read. So anti-climactic. On the list of #lifegoals is getting back to reading more. For now, there’s just way too much GOOD TV.

Later, I’ll do a post on TV that changed me as a person, but because it’s summer, I thought that I would focus this one on what I’m watching now, just finished watching, or is on my watch list. This list isn’t at all exhaustive. I’ve limited it to three titles per category of shows that are currently on TV. As I said, I like TV…

I got to know Kelly Levesque a few months ago when she came to Houston to sing for theKNOWAutism gala. Not only is she an incredibly talented vocalist, but she is extremely kind and giving. She wrote asong about autism and is donating 100% of the proceeds to the KNOWAutism Foundation. We dressed her for the gala, but somehow, she was convinced to let me sing with her on The Prayer (there may or may not be evidence of this on my Instastory highlights…).

I can’t tell you how often I get the question, “Is this appropriate for my wedding?” The answer, really, is simple and complicated. It depends on how many people you want to annoy and how much of a people pleaser you are. Maybe I’m simplifying things a little bit too much, but you have to think about what you want out of your wedding.
Wedding are usually the moment when you’re bringing your entire family together with your future in-laws, maybe for the first time, which brings the question, “Is your wedding even about you?”
This month marks two years since we launched Miles David and I couldn’t be more grateful for where we are. Are things perfect? Did we have smooth sailing all year? No, but I recognize that every day I get to do a job that I love to do. I get to interact with the most extraordinary people and I get to help support the causes that make me smile.
Giving back is at the heart of what we do at Miles David, and it made sense today to highlight some of the organizations that I love.

To show our love, we will donate 30% of our sales today to organizations that are making a difference.

I would love to know which organizations you support!  #GivingTuesday
I wasn’t living in New York when 9/11 happened. I was in Cleveland, in a college art class working on drawings that I hoped would help me get to design school in New York or Europe. During a class break, my mom called. It sounded like the world was ending. Our teacher returned and said that we should all probably go home.

One of my favorite things about my job is that I get to work with such a variety of different clients and see how they express themselves through their weddings. Michelle was recommended to us by a good friend and happens to be a talented interior designer. She was so excited about the process of making her dress a part of her wedding.

She came in thinking that she wanted to have a sweetheart, strapless top, but happened to spy one of our day dresses with a draped detail at the shoulder. "I want that!" she said, and we were off!
