David's World

We get a behind the scenes look at Houston based visual artist Emily Dingmann personal and professional life. The work illustrates the contrast between the urban concrete world and the meditation found within painting. We get a behind the scenes look at the Houston based artist!

Today's post is a little different than normal. Alyssa and I were talking the other day about her travel schedule and she was saying that she had a huge revelation when she was packing to visit her parents in Virginia. She was only going to be gone a few days, but they were going to be visiting various places and she didn't want to pack a huge bag just for the weekend. That's when she had her "aha moment" and realized that what she needed was staring her in the face... literally every day.

I'll let her tell you...

Today's guest inside the design studio is an international florist, entrepreneur, and business mentor, who has created a life she loves by combining her passion for business and beautiful flowers. We met several years ago through Instagram, and I've loved learning more about her story and watching her pivot and grow her business.

Let's face it. This year is not going to be business as usual when it comes to celebrating Independence Day. Independence feels like a bit of an oxymoron at this point.

Here are some easy ideas that make the holiday special without a lot of hassle.

When my friend and journalist Joy Sewing called and asked if I would be a guest on her new Zoom series, I was thrilled. I love talking to fellow designers and entrepreneurs about what is going on in their worlds and what is working for them.

On Thursday evening. I sat down (virtually) with Joy and entrepreneur Onyii Brown of Onyii and Co. to talk about all things Coronavirus, small business, and Black Lives Matter.

I couldn't be more thrilled about today's guest Inside the Design Studio! Andrea Bonner is one of those people I feel like I met as soon as I came to Houston. She was the Regional Director of Fashion Group International and helped to connect me to the burgeoning fashion scene here in Houston.

Through the years, Andrea has been a client and most importantly a friend. We've had many shared experiences from our work on various task forces and educational committees to teaching at Interlochen in Michigan in the summers. Andrea is one of the most stylish and fashionable people I know. She has an innate ability to spot a gem and make it shine.

Though we have paused our own social media this week in order to amplify black voices, we feel that taking the time to learn is the first step to becoming actively anti-racist.

I admit that I have been too passive, and not as active as I could be in my approach to combating racism. From here on out, I pledge to take a stronger stand. Though I will never personally understand what it means to be black in America, I can continue educating myself to become a better ally. Moving forward, I will be more proactive about seeking out black businesses to support. Over the last week, I have also taken the time to diversify my Instagram feed and find more POC to follow and I'm looking forward to continuing to open myself up to new ideas and people who are changing the world for the better. That's a whole other post that I am planning to do.

Mindset matters. Let me tell you from experience. It can be absolutely life-changing. Two years ago, I was in a bad place.  I felt like I had worked so hard for so long but wasn't seeing the results I needed or wanted to see in my life and career. From the outside, everything looked fine, but on the inside, I was dying.

Enter life and business coach Tina Marie St.Cyr.

A quick catch up with our good friend Carla Russell. A fabulous mother, traveler, and fashion-savvy Houstonian. You're going to be seeing a whole lot more of her around the boutique (well, as soon as Corona lets us) because Carla is coming on board our team to help us with all things brides, mothers, and debs!
Our staff picks haven't stopped just yet! While picking our top song of all time isn't quite possible, we each came up with 5 songs that we just can't quit. Music can change our spirits, and who doesn't need that right now. If you're running dry and are in need of some inspiration you've come to the right place.
I'm especially excited about this edition of Inside the Design Studio. Paul Hotze is one of my favorite people, hilarious, a fellow entrepreneur, and an all-around great guy. We have more than shut down State of Grace on several occasions commiserating on the life of a small business owner.
Virtually putting together someone's vision for one of the most important moments in their life like a wedding dress is definitely a lot of pressure and required a significant amount of communication on both ends. Being able to revisit such a lovely moment from the 4 years ago was definitely an exciting "blast from the past" moment.
